The family of Klawervlei’s G1 winning and G1 producing sire Count Dubois made news on the final day of the 2018 Tattersalls December Foal Sale on Saturday.
A Showcasing filly foal (Lot 1161), whose second dam is a half-sister to both Count Dubois and Irish 2000 Guineas winning sire Indian Haven, made 120 000 guineas to jointly top Saturday’s day of trade.
Consigned by Jamie Railton, as agent, the filly was snapped up by Tim Hyde of Camas Park Stud.
Hyde said of the filly, “She really owned the ring and will be offered for resale. There’s been a lot of nice horses this week and plenty of competition for them.”
Out of the Fasliyev mare Park Law, the filly is a full sister to highly regarded filly Pavillon. Her second dam Blanche Dubois was unraced but produced a pair of black type performers in Middlemarch and Lady High Havens, with Blanche Dubois also featuring as granddam of G2 Royal Whip Stakes winner Hall Of Mirrors.
Madame Dubois, the dam of Count Dubois and Indian Haven, won five times including both the G2 Park Hill Stakes and G2 Prix de Royallieu.
This is also the family of Daily News 2000 hero Surcharge, and influential champions Diesis and Kris.
Count Dubois, the sire of Equus Champions Asylum Seeker, Edict Of Nantes and French Navy, also made news in South Africa.
His millionaire son Biarritz is the sire of Saturday’s Listed Racing Association Handicap winner Walter Smoothie while Count Dubois’ G3 Magnolia Handicap winner Fair Rosalind is the dam of Saturday’s G3 Epol Magnolia Handicap heroine Schippers.
Count Dubois could be back in the headlines soon, as the son of Zafonic is also sire of Northern Superstar (formerly known as Edict Of Nantes) who is a runner in Sunday’s G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup.
A former Equus Outstanding Stallion himself, Count Dubois has a single lot on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale –a colt (Lot 9) whose dam is a daughter of Green Desert and 1000 Guineas winner Harayir.
