Varsfontein Stud’s promising young sire Erik The Red came up with a good looking debut winner on Friday.
His two-year-old son Trigger Warning made a big impression when he won the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m).
The Kelly Mitchley trained colt made all, under Chad Little, to score on debut by two and a quarter lengths.
Little described his winner as a “very nice horse, who quickened up like a real smart horse.”
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Trigger Warning was a R100 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
The colt, who races for Mr Chetty, is out of the Visionaire mare Social Spirit.
Himself a graded stakes winning two-year-old, Eric The Red has some very smart two-year-olds this season including Listed JC Le Roux Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Red Spice.
The son of Captain Al has 26 yearlings on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and seven lots on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.
