Multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with an eye catching debut winner at the Vaal on Thursday.
His two-year-old son Trompe L‘Oeil made the perfect start to his career when he won the first race on Thursday.
In the process, Trompe L‘Oeil became the 17th two-year-old winner for Gimmethegreenlight this season.
Under a well judged ride from Trent Mayhew, the Corne Spies trained Trompe L’Oeil stayed on strongly to get up and win the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) by nearly half a length.
Bred by Alec Foster, Trompe L’Oeil, races for Messrs R P Macnab, S Poriazis, D Dasrath & Mrs C Dasrath.
Thursday’s winner, a R600 000 purchase from the 2025 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is out of the Captain Al mare Mirage, and thus bred on the same cross as G1 winning champions Proceed and Sandringham Summit.
Gimmethegreenlight, who has had more two-year-old winners this season than the likes of Querari, Master Of My Fate and Vercingetorix, had enjoyed more juvenile success last weekend when his blue blooded daughter Grapes Of Wrath won the Listed Irridescence Stakes.
