Varsfontein Stud’s multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with a debut winner at Fairview on Wednesday.
His three-year-old daughter Cheeky Cranberry made the perfect start to her career when she won the first race on the card.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained filly stormed home to land the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Open Maiden (1000m) by three parts of a length.
Bred and owned by the Wernars family, Cheeky Cranberry is out of the Snitzel mare Sweet Red.
Her champion sire Gimmethegreenlight had also enjoyed success at the Vaal one day earlier, when his son Chabal won the fourth race on the card.
Triple Champion Sire in South Africa, Gimmethegreenlight is currently second on the General Sires list.
The son of More Than Ready will be represented by his daughter Gimme What I Want in Saturday’s G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship and also has two runners in Sunday’s G3 Betway Victory Moon Stakes.
