Maine Chance Farms’ prominent sire Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2018-2019, came up with his second two-year-old winner of the 2021-2022 season when his daughter Primula made a winning debut at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the Piet Botha trained filly was given a good ride by Keanen Steyn, who bought his mount with a late rattle to capture Saturday’s first race, the Welcome To Cape Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (900m) by a neck.

Primula, who is out of the Shamardal mare Perija, was a R20 000 buy from the 2021 CTS Farm Yearing Sale.

The filly hails from the same female line as the Querari sired stakes winners Pinnacle Peak and Principessa.

By the same sire as this year’s Cartier Champion 2YO Colt Native Trail, Querari is also the sire of another impressive two-year-old this season in the form of debut winner Fennec Fox.

The sire of more than 50 black type horses thus far, Querari made waves at the 2021 CTS Ready To Run Sale, where his son Franz Lehar topped that one day auction.
