Debut winner for Querari

11th Mar 2023

Maine Chance Farms’ prominent sire Querari came up with an eye-catching debut winner at Turffontein on Saturday when his son Cornwall won at the first time of asking.
Trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, three-year-old Cornwall was given a good ride by Malesela Katjedi to win the first race at Turffontein on Saturday.
Always well positioned by Katjedi, Cornwall raced just off the front runners for much of the running in the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1160m) before being given his head 200m from home.
From there, the gelding powered home to score impressively by a length and a quarter.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Cornwall is out of the Fort Wood mare Cutty Sark.
His sire Querari, twice Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa, is having another good season in 2022-2023, with the son of Oasis Dream currently fifth on the General Sires List with his runners having already banked more than R7.537 million.
Already the sire of 31 stakes winners, Querari has a cracking draft on offer at the 2023 National Yearling Sale, where Querari is responsible for half or full-siblings to such notable graded stakes winners as Ameena, Cockney Pride, Cosmic Light, Decorated, and Royal Victory.
