Debut winner for Rafeef

22nd February 2026

Ridgemont’s top-class resident sire Rafeef came up with an eye catching debut winner at Turffontein on Saturday.
His three-year-old daughter Rabble Rouser justified favouritism when she won the second race on the Turffontein card.

Trained by Sean Tarry, Rabble Rouser did well to win the Aquazania Maiden Plate (1160m), with the filly having acted up in the starting stalls prior to the race.
Under Keagan De Melo, the Rafeef filly was always prominent in the race, and she dug down deep to beat the more experienced Highwayman Harry by  a length.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Rabble Rouser is out of Shout Out Lord, whose sire Philanthropist is from the same family as National Assembly, broodmare sire of Rafeef.

The latter is also the sire of the smart performers Poblano and Chasing Happiness, the second and third place finishers respectively in Saturday’s Betway Bauhinia Stakes.

Rafeef’s G1 TAB Computaform Sprint winning son William Robertson also caught the eye on Saturday when he ran second, to G1 Mercury Sprint winner Buffalo Storm Cody, in the Owa Ceilings Pinnacle Stakes.

Currently fifth on the General Sires Premiership (his offspring having earned more than R10.16 million this season), Rafeef has five lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and 22 lots on the Premier Yearling Sale.
