Debut winner for Vercingetorix

5th June 2024

Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd’s star stallion Vercingetorix came up with another good-looking prospect when his two-year-old daughter Basked In Glory made a winning debut at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Trained by Stuart Pettigrew, Basked In Glory was given a well-judged ride by Gavin Lerena to land the Champion Stayer -Purple Pitcher Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200 metres.
The filly stormed home with a fine turn of foot and got up to win on debut by a head.
Bred by Maine Chance, Basked In Glory is out of the Shamardal mare Bold Nimph which makes her a half-sister to graded stakes winners Gobsmacked and Mighty High.
Basked In Glory is the 11th juvenile winner for Vercingetorix this season, with Silvano’s champion son’s other notable two-year-olds in 2023-2024 including graded stakes winners Cymric and Little Ballerina as well as Listed World Sports Betting Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Roman Agent.
Responsible for nine black-type winners this season, Vercingetorix has five lots on Thursday’s Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale and a further five yearlings on sale at the KZN Yearling Sale.
