Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire, and Cartier Champion, Duke Of Marmalade was responsible for a 43rd individual stakes winner when his exciting daughter True To Life won the G3 Gauteng Tourism Authority Magnolia Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday.
The Northfields Stud bred three-year-old, third in last season’s G2 SA Fillies Nursery, showed her class when romping to a three length win in Saturday’s 1160m feature for trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren and jockey Chase Maujean.
True To Life, who had accounted for the very promising colt Ikigai when winning on her seasonal debut, has now won four of only seven starts and has already banked in excess of R360 000 in prize money.
Her five time G1 winning sire Duke Of Marmalade, also sire of international G1 winners Simple Verse, Big Orange, Star Of Seville, Nutan and Sound Of Freedom, has now sired graded winners in both of his first two South African crops, with the son of Danehill’s first local crop having produced six stakes winners already –including Fillies Guineas winner Santa Clara and Cape champion Temple Grafin.
The sire of more than 70 black type horses worldwide, Duke Of Marmalade has three yearlings on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, including a colt (Lot 162) whose dam is a Trippi half-sister to Equus Champion Jeppe’s Reef and dual Algoa Cup hero Disco Al.
