Maine Chance Farm (Pty) Ltd’s top-class stallion Querari enjoyed a memorable day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday. Not only did Querari’s promising son Cosmic Speed win Saturday’s G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, but Querari’s sons, At My Command and Teflon Man, finished second and third respectively in Saturday’s G2 Post Merchants.
Classy two-year-old Cosmic Speed had finished runner-up in the G1 Gold Medallion prior to his win on Saturday, and the Sean Tarry trained gelding stamped himself as a horse to follow with a smart performance on Saturday.
Under a well-judged ride from Craig Zackey, Cosmic Speed hit the front 400m from home and powered clear to land Saturday’s R500 000 feature for two-year-olds by over two lengths, with his Gold Medallion conqueror Proceed finishing second.
Bred by Maine Chance, Cosmic Speed has now won twice from four starts and is yet to finish out of the first two.
Out of the Silvano mare Cosmic Dream, Cosmic Speed is bred on the same Querari/Silvano cross as such graded stakes winners as Bavarian Beauty, Homely Girl, and Wonderwall to name a few.
Cosmic Speed, a full-brother to G2 The Debutante winner Cosmic Light, is the 43rd stakes winner for his sire.
Querari is also the sire of this season’s graded stakes winners Questioning and Master Redoute and the aforementioned pair of At My Command and Teflon Man. Querari sons At My Command, I Am Giant and Cruise Control ran 2-3-4 in this season’s G1 Golden Horse Sprint.
At the time of writing, Querari is third on South Africa’s General Sires List, with his offspring having already earned more than R14.769 million in 2023-2024.
