Durbanville double for Vercingetorix

11th October 2023

Fresh off supplying Saturday’s Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies) winner Mrs Geriatrix, Maine Chance Farms’ top-class stallion Vercingetorix struck again when coming up with two more winners at Durbanville on Tuesday.
Silvano’s champion son struck first when the Vercingetorix filly Vix Princess captured the third race, the Cape Racing Sales Open Maiden (F&M) (1400m) in convincing fashion.
One of five winners on the day for trainer Justin Snaith, three-year-old Vix Princess ran around in the running but, under Grant Van Niekerk, the filly straightened up in the closing stages and went on to score by a length and a half.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Vix Princess (a three-parts sister to the Vercingetorix sired G1 WSB Cape Filllies Guineas winner Chansonette) had finished third two starts back.
She is out of the Mr. Greeley mare Celigny.
Vercingetorix also looks to have a very promising daughter to his name in the form of Double Grand Slam, who caught the eye when victorious in Tuesday’s Cape Turf Club Syndicates Class 4 (F &M) (1400m).
Another winner for Justin Snaith, three-year-old Double Grand Slam made it two wins from just three starts when she made all on Tuesday to score by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Double Grand Slam is out of the Captain Al mare Princess Peach and is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as G1 winner Vernichey.
Former Equus Champion, and G1 Jebel Hatta winner, Vercingetorix is currently seventh on the South African General Sires List.
The sire of champions Cousin Casey, Nebraas and Mrs Geriatrix has three lots on offer at the Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale and five lots on sale at the November Two Year Old Sale.
