Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s outstanding sire Dynasty was responsible for yet another feature race winner, when his champion daughter Lady In Black landed the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes at Greyville on Sunday.
Trained by Dennis Drier, the Willem Englebrecht Jnr bred three-year-old dug down deep to record the second graded victory of her career, when landing the R250 000 Umzimkhulu Stakes by a head.
Lady In Black, runner up to subsequent G1 Sun Met winner Oh Susanna, in the G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes last time out, has now won four of her seven starts and her earnings are fast approaching the R1 000 000 mark.
A R1 100 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale, Lady In Black was South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly last season when her unbeaten three race winning streak included the G1 Thekwini Stakes.
Her sire Dynasty has an outstanding crop of three-year-olds, once again, this season, with Lady In Black joining the likes of Eyes Wide Open (G1 Investec Cape Derby, G1 Premiers Champion Stakes), Hashtagyolo (G3 Flamboyant Stakes) and KZN Guineas Trial winner Sir David Baird, as well as G3 Protea Stakes winner Barrack Street.
Dynasty went close to having a weekend feature race double, with daughter Sabina’s Dynasty just touched off into second placed in Saturday’s Listed Jacaranda Handicap.
The four times Equus Outstanding Stallion is also responsible for Highlands’ very promising young sire Jackson, the sire of Saturday’s impressive 2yo winner Mr Crumford.
Dynasty has a single lot (Lot 28) on this week’s April Yearling Sale –a filly out of a G3 winning Galileo half-sister to Australian G1 winner Srikandi.
The former Horse Of The Year has18 lots on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, including a half-brother to champion French Navy (Lot11), a colt out of Met winner River Jetez (Lot 13), a half-sister to current G1 star Snowdance (Lot 45), a full-brother to Horse Of The Year Legislate (Lot 112) and a colt out of Equus Champion Lady Windermere (Lot 189).
