Elusive Fort filly lands Jamaica Handicap

8th Jan 2021

Black Swan Stud’s resident sire Elusive Fort has been in excellent form over the past 12 months, and the former Equus Champion supplied yet another feature race winner when his daughter Elusive Fortune captured the Listed Ardmore Jamaica Handicap (2000m) at Kenilworth on Friday.

Trained by Justin Snaith, five-year-old Elusive Fortune was given a superb, front running ride by Grant Van Niekerk, with Van Niekerk electing to take his mare to the front.

Despite being headed halfway up the straigth, Elusive Fortune dug down deep and fought on to record a neck win at the expense of favourite, and stablemate, Sleeping Single.

Bred by Dr Marianne Thomson, Elusive Fortune has now seven of 28 starts, with Friday’s win pushing her earnings to R356 875.

Out of the Al Mufti mare Muhtaram, Elusive Fortune was a R40 000 buy from the 2017 March Yearling Sale.

She is the 12th stakes winner for Elusive Fort -whose 3yo son Catch Twentytwo has won both the G2 World Sports Betting Dingaans and G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes this season.
