Maine Chance Farms’ exciting new stallion Erupt is from a truly magnificent family.
Erupt, whose dam won the G3 Prix Vanteaux, is a direct descendant of the Canadian Horse Of The Year and US Champion 3YO Filly Fanfreluche.
The latter, whose 11 wins included the now G1 Alabama Stakes, also ranks as the granddam of one of the world’s hottest current sires in the form of G1 Phoenix Stakes/G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Holy Roman Emperor.
Already twice champion sire in Hong Kong, and with a tally of 78 black type winners to his name thus far , Holy Roman Emperor has been responsible for a trio of G1 winners this year so far- headed by Irish 2000 Guineas winner Romanised, German Oaks vixen Well Timed and Sword Dancer Stakes hero Glorious Empire.
Holy Roman Emperor is very closely related to the Danehill sired Golden Slipper winner Flying Spur –Australia’s Champion Sire of 2006-2007, and broodmare sire of current boom Australian sire Sebring. Flying Spur’s G1 winning son Casino Prince is responsible for four time G1 winner All Too Hard, who ended 2017-2018 as Australia’s second Leading Second Crop Sire by stakes.
Flying Spur is out of the Mr Prospector mare Rolls, whose second dam is Fanfreluche.
Rolls is also second dam of former Australian champion sire Encosta De Lago, who left behind a total of 114 stakes winners including Manhattan Rain (sire of Sun Met hero Whisky Baron) and short lived sire sensation Northern Meteor. The latter’s dual G1 winning son Zoustar ended up as Australia’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2017-2018 and is standing for a fee of AUS60 500 this season.
Encosta De Lago is an outstanding broodmare sire and was Champion Broodmare Sire in Australia the last 3 years running and who is damsire of such G1 winners as The Quarterback, Sofia Rosa, Musir, Peeping, Impending, Happy Clapper, and Mighty Boss. Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa is a daughter of Dubawi’s son Makfi.
Yet another prospect to hail from this remarkable family is triple G1 winner Charm Spirit. The latter, a son of Invincible Spirit and direct descendant of Ciboulette (dam of Fanfreluche) has made a remarkable start with his first 2yos this season including 15 winners headed by G3 Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes winner Yourtimeisnow.
Out of a G1 daughter of French Derby winner and champion sire Caerleon, Erupt himself is a dual G1 winning son of one of the world’s leading sires in the form of Dubawi.
Already responsible for the G1 sires Poet’s Voice and Makfi, Dubawi was recently anointed as the world’s Number One Stallion by widely respected website Thoroughbred Racing Commentary. To date, the triple G1 winning son of Dubai Millennium (whose G2 winning dam was a half-sister to Fort Wood) has been responsible for 158 stakes winners including 35 G1 winners.
Erupt won both the G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (a race won previously by champion South African sire Fort Wood) and G1 Pattison Canadian International (whose previous winners included hugely successful sire Singspiel) and earned more than $1.3 million in prize money.
He stands for a first year fee of R50 000.
