Ridgemont’s five-time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs has been firing on all cylinders of late, and the son of Tagula was at it again when the progeny of Canford Cliffs won the first two races on the Fairview card on Friday.
His two-year-old daughter Confetti stormed home to win the first race on Friday, the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m), in impressive fashion.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff-trained filly hit the front 200m from home and powered away to score by four and a half lengths.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Confetti had finished second on debut before finishing third on her only other start prior to Friday’s win.
Confetti, who is out of the New Approach mare Make It Raine, is the 11th two-year-old winner this season for Canford Cliffs, whose juveniles in 2023-2024 also include G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes winner Simply Majestic and Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes queen Almond Sea.
Canford Cliffs struck again in the next race when his son Justcantgetenough captured the www.soccer6.co.za Maiden Plate (1100m) for Luyolo Mxothwa and Sharon Kotzen.
The gelded three-year-old showed plenty of courage in fighting off runner-up Consigliere and staying on to shed his maiden by half a length.
Another bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Justcantgetenough is out of the Silvano mare Depeche.
Canford Cliffs is also the broodmare sire of Alfa Kellenic (by Havana Grey), who won the British EBF Supporting Racing With Pride Fillies’ Handicap at York on Friday. That three-year-old, who is out of the Canford Cliffs mare Silhuette, has won her last three starts and has won three of just five starts.
Canford Cliffs has two colts on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
