Fillies Guineas success for Vercingetorix

6th May 2023

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Vercingetorix has been enjoying a purple patch of late, with the Equus champion supplying high-class winners all over South Africa, and Silvano’s champion son struck yet again when his daughter Peach Daiquiri won the G2 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas (1600m) run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

In the process, the three-year-old became Vercingetorix’s 28th stakes winner.

An impressive winner of her first three starts, the former Sharon Kotzen trained Peach Daiquiri was given a thoughtful ride by Louis Mxothwa in Saturday’s R450 000 feature.

While the field bunched up around the turn after front runner Lady Of Power set slow fractions, Mxothwa kept Peach Daiquiri down the inside of the track.
With 100m left to go, the Alec Laird trained Peach Daiquiri kicked away to score by just over half a length.

Out of the Querari mare Pomona (and thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Querari as another Fillies Guineas winner in the form of Chansonette), Peach Daiquiri has now won four of just seven starts.

The filly was bred by Maine Chance Farms.

Peach Daiquiri’s G1 Jebel Hatta winning sire Vercingetorix has had another cracking season in 2022-2023 with his other flagbearers including fellow graded stakes winners Bereave, Cousin Casey, Mrs Geriatrix, Nebraas and Rascallion.

The champion also dominated proceedings at the 2023 National Yearling Sale, where Vercingetorix headed the Leading Sires by Aggregate premiership.
