Fillies Mile win for Gimmethegreenlight

13th November 2021

South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with his 38th stakes winner when his progressive three-year-old daughter Follow Me won the G3 Fillies Mile (1600m) at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.

Trained by Stuart Pettigrew, Follow Me (blinkered for a first time) was given a well judged ride by Diego De Gouveia.

The latter let his mount take the running up along way from home, and the pair kept galloping resolutely to win convincingly by just over a length and a quarter.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Follow Me has now won three of just six starts, with the Gimmethegreenlight filly having finished fourth in the G3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes (a race won by fellow Gimmethegreenlight filly One Night In Paris) last time out.

Out of the Caesour mare Imperial State, Follow Me was a R180 000 buy from the 2020 National Yearling Sale.

It was back to back Fillies Mile wins for Gimmethegreenlight, with the latter also responsible for 2020 winner Gee For Go.

Gimmethegreenlight has another stellar crop of three-year-olds this season, with the son of More Than Ready’s sophomores currently including four graded stakes winners, as well as the likes of Dancetildaylight, Mercury Rising, Super Siri and Universal.
