Friday double for Global View

19th February 2022

Ascot Stud’s well bred resident stallion Global View has been in good form of late, and the son of Galileo’s good run continued on Friday when Global View supplied a pair of winners at Fairview.

Global View’s first success on Friday came when his two-year-old son Forest Spy captured the first race on Friday.
Under Warren Kennedy, the Gavin Smith trained Forest Spy pulled clear in the closing stages of Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) to win going away by two and a half lengths. (Another two-year-old by Global View, Sand Bank, ran fourth to Forest Spy.)

Third on his only other start, the Ascot Stud bred colt is out of the Al Mufti mare Muhtaram.

Global View is also the sire of star East Cape galloper Global Drummer, with the latter scoring a courageous win on Friday.
Under Kaidan Brewer, the talented four-year-old was always up with the pace in Friday’s Betontab.co.za Pinnacle Stakes (1400m) and kept going gamely to win by half a length.
Also trained by Gavin Smith, the Ascot Stud bred Global Drummer has now won 14 of 18 starts, with the gelding’s previous triumphs including the 2021 Listed Ibhayi Stakes and the Listed Racing Association Plate, Listed Champion Juvenile Cup, Listed Dahlia Plate and Listed East Cape Nursery of 2020.

Out of the Kilconnel mare Royal Drummer, Global Drummer has earned in excess of R600 000 in prize money.

By the same sire as champion sire Frankel, Global View (South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2019-2020) has five yearlings on the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale.
