Friday four-timer for What A Winter

7th February 2026

Drakenstein Stud’s top-class sire What A Winter had a memorable day on Friday when he was responsible for four winners.
What A Winter came up with two winners at Fairview on Friday and two more winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on the same card.

The champion son of Western Winter’s daughters Winteronthegreen and Iconic Winter provided What A Winter with a quick double when winning races two and three respectively at Fairview.

Now in the care of Kelly Mitchley, Winteronthegreen powered home, under Muzi Yeni, to claim Friday’s #Youcanbetonus! Open Maiden (1000m) by a length and a half.
The What A Winter filly, who was bred by Neil Clarke and Richard Foden, is out of the Jet Master mare Augusta National.

Winteronthegreen, who was making her first start in Fairview on Friday, races for Mr Vahab.

Her sire struck again in the next race, when What A Winter filly Iconic Winter romped home to claim victory in the Hear The Drums Bar And Tote Opens Every Saturday For Feb Open Maiden (1000m).
The Dean Smith filly pulled well clear in the closing stages and went on to break her maiden by an emphatic three and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Shadwell Stud, Iconic Winter was making her third start in Fairview on Friday.
Owned by Messrs M J Kapnias & A M Kapnias, the consistent filly is out of the Snitzel mare Masaaqaat.

What A Winter also enjoyed a double at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday.
His three-year-old daughter Whatastar got out of the maidens in convincing fashion when she romped home to an easy win in the first race.
Under Serino Moodley, the Candice Bass trained filly, who was making her first start on polytrack, blitzed home to land the Trailblazers Open Maiden (1200m) by nearly two and a half lengths.

Bred by Dr Ralph Katzwinkel, Whatastar is owned by Bass Racing (Pty) Ltd T/A Centenary Syndicate, Messrs A E Bakos, Peter J Botes & Calvin Pillay.

Her sire’s fourth and final winner on Friday came when Takeyourbestshot ran out a convincing winner of Hollywoodbets Greyville’s fourth race. Under Keagan De Melo, the MJ Odendaal trained gelding kicked on strongly to break his maiden by nearly a length and three quarters.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Takeyourbestshot, who had finished second in four of five starts prior to Friday’s win, races for Messrs Andrade and Gaskell.
