Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding resident sire Vercingetorix has made a flying start to the 2022-2023 South African racing season and the champion son of Silvano struck twice at Fairview racecourse on Friday.
Not only did Vercingetorix’s son Mount Anderson capture Friday’s feature race, his three-year-old daughter Glass Shoes made the perfect start to her racing career when making a winning debut over 1000 metres.
Winner of last season’s Listed World Sports BettingThe Sledgehammer, Mount Anderson had finished second in the G2 World Sports Betting 1900 and G3 Hollywoodbets Dolphin Trial Cup Trial at his two previous starts and was duly sent off a 33-10 tote favourite for Friday’s Friendly City Stakes (Non-Black Type).
Under Marco Van Rensburg, the classy six-year-old powered home to get up close home and win cosily by half a length.
The biggest winner, to date, for trainer Kelly Mitchley, Mount Anderson has now won six of 23 outings.
Bred by Millstream Farm, Mount Anderson had also previous tasted notable success when he captured the 2020 Listed Christmas Handicap.
Out of the G1 Golden Slipper winning mare Gilded Minaret, Mount Anderson is one of 21 stakes winners for his sire Vercingetorix.
The latter also came up with an eye catching debut winner on Friday when the Vercingetorix filly Glass Shoes captured the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Plate (1000m) for Sharon Kotzen and Louis Mxothwa.
Bred and owned by Mr Mynhardt, three-year-old Glass Shoes stayed on smartly to win by three-parts of a length at the first time of asking.
