Varsfontein Stud’s red hot resident sire Master Of My Fate enjoyed yet another big pay day on Sunday. Not only did his daughter Golden Palm win the G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes but his son Jan Van Goyen landed the G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes.
Master Of My Fate’s top-class two-year-old daughter Golden Palm made it four wins from five starts when she ran out a ready winner of the G1 Thekwini Stakes (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Winner of the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery and Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes at her two previous starts, Golden Palm made it a hatrick of feature race wins when she won Sunday’s G1 feature.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained Golden Palm stamped her claims for an Equus award with a professional more than two and three quarter length win.
The filly bounded home down the inside to get up and win going away in convincing fashion.

Golden Palm, who is out of the Var mare Croisette and bred on the same Master Of My Fate/Var cross as champion Tempting Fate, was a R260 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.
Jan Van Goyen became Master Of My Fate’s sixth G1 winner when he stormed home to win Sunday’s G1 Premiers Champion Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, the two-year-old colt made it three wins from four starts with a fluent performance.
Under Callan Murray, the progressive Jan Van Goyen hit the front 200m from home and bounded away to score by nearly three and three-quarter lengths.
Jan Van Goyen, who is out of the Oratorio mare Daydream Believer, races for Mesdames Erasmus and Huntingford in partnership with Mr Leyenaar. The colt was bred by the Trotters in partnership with Mr Alexander and Campbell.
He follows Sentbydestiny as the second winner of this race for Master Of My Fate.
Master Of My Fate, whose close relative Erik The Red will be crowned South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire for 2024-2025, also enjoyed success at Fairview on Friday when his two-year-old son King Prawn won the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup.
