G1 success for Canford Cliffs granddaughter

4th Dec 2022

Ridgemont Highlands’ five time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs made international headlines this weekend, when his maternal granddaughter Amelia’s Jewel won Australia’s G1 Drummond Golf-Northerly Stakes on Saturday.
Out of the Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina, brilliant three-year-old Amelia’s Jewel received a superb ride from Pat Carbery to win Saturday’s $1.5 million contest.
Trained by Simon Miller the daughter of Siyouni defeated the Will Clarken-trained blueblood Ironclad by a length with a further half-length back to Steinem in third.
Godolphin’s warrior Cascadian had a torrid trip from an outside barrier and finished fourth.
Amelia’s Jewel, who had previously won the G2 Sky Racing- WA Guineas this season and the G2 Amelia Park Karrakatta Plate at two, advances her record to six wins and a second from seven starts with earnings of $1,671,300
She is the first foal of the stakes placed Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina, a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer’s Astute Bloodstock at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale.
Bumbasina’s Irish 2000 Guineas winning sire recently made headlines in Cape Town when the Canford Cliffs sired two-year-old Miss Hannigan made a winning debut over 900 metres.
