Lammerskraal Stud’s G1 winning stallion Visionaire made news at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday when his son Good Traveller won the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes (1600m) in fine style.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, the gelded Good Traveller came into Saturday’s R400 000 feature having finished third in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe but had a poor draw to overcome in the Premiers Champion Stakes.

Under Grant Van Niekerk, the Lammerskraal Stud bred two-year-old powered into the lead close home and kept finding more in the closing stages to win by just over a length and a quarter.
Out of the Western Winter mare Skylar Lane, Good Traveller was a R200 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale.

A second feature race winner for his trainer on Saturday, Good Traveller has now won four of just six starts, with the gelding’s previous wins including a score in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.

Good Traveller, who won his first three starts in a row, now looks a potential contender for the Equus Award of Champion 2YO Colt/Gelding for 2020-2021.

His King’s Bishop Stakes winning sire Visionaire was South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2014-2015, with the Grand Slam’s other notable performers headed by G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner Takingthepeace, millionaire Africa Rising and Fillies Guineas heroine Heaps Of Fun.
