Gimmethegreenlight colt maintains his unbeaten record

17th January 2024

South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight has an outstanding crop of three-year-olds this season, with this crop including the unbeaten Taegan’s Champ.
The latter made three wins from three starts when scoring a courageous win at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Trained by Fabian Habib, three-year-old Taegan’s Champ was given a well-timed ride by Calvin Habib which saw the pair stay on to hold off another promising sort in the form of Storm Brasco and land Tuesday’s For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Graduation Plate (1600m) by a short-head.
A six-and-a-half-length winner on debut, Taegan’s Champ had followed that up when scoring a convincing win over 1400m at Turffontein before Tuesday’s race.
Bred by Shadwell Stud, Taegan’s Champ is out of the Var mare Varachino.
The colt was an R350 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
His sire Gimmethegreenlight’s crop of three-year-olds this year already includes 13 black type performers headed by Equus Champion, and G1 winner, Sandringham Summit, G1 Gold Medallion hero Lucky Lad, unbeaten dual graded stakes winner Gimme A Nother, and recent G3 Mother Russia Stakes winner Let’s Go Now.
Twice Champion Sire in South Africa, Gimmethegreenlight is once again heading the South African General Sires premiership for 2023-2024.
