Varsfontein Stud’s increasingly successful More Than Ready stallion Gimmethegreenlight dominated the finish of Saturday’s G2 Gauteng Guineas at Turffontein this past weekend.

Gimmethegreenlight sons National Park and Barahin (both previous graded stakes winners) ran first and third in Saturday’s R1 000 000 3yo classic to confirm themselves as among the leaders of their generation.

Bred by part-owner the Missing U Syndicate, the Eastern Cape raider National Park showed his class in no uncertain terms when romping home to post an emphatic 2.7 length win at the expense of the previously unbeaten, and multiple graded stakes winner Hawwaam, while National Park’s paternal half-brother, and G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner, Barahin, made a pleasing comeback after a lengthy layoff when running on for third place.

Remarkably, Gimmethegreenlight had no fewer than four runners in Saturday’s classic (the smart stakes performers Stream Ahead and Green Haze being the others), and National Park and Barahin picked up a cool R725 000 between them on Saturday.

The Yvette Bremner trained National Park has now won six of 11 outings, with Saturday’s win pushing the Gimmethegreenlight gelding’s earnings to R1 050 400 –with the promise of plenty more to come!

A R240 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale, National Park’s previous wins included a 5.8 length romp, over multiple graded stakes winner Chimichuri Run, in November’s G3 Graham Beck Stakes.

He is not the first of Gimmethegreenlight’s progeny to win a Guineas with the sire’s daughter Gimme Six landing the G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas in 2017. (Gimmethegreenlight’s star Eastern Cape based daughter Beatabboutthebush won the Listed Breeders’ Guineas in 2017).

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has two lots on the Cape Yearling Sale next month –a filly (bred like G1 winner Gunner) whose dam is a G3 placed daughter of Captain Al, and a filly out of a stakes placed daughter of National Assembly.
