Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight has had another fantastic season, and South Africa’s reigning champion sire was at it again when his daughter Lovecomesknocking made R1 900 000 to top Thursday’s KZN Yearling Sale.
Consigned to the Durban auction by Klawervlei Stud (Pty) Ltd As Agent, Lovecomesknocking is out of the Captain Al sired Listed East Cape Oaks winner Eros’s Girl, a half-sister to both the Gimmethegreenlight sired G3 Politician Stakes winner Universal and to Equus Champion Vardy.
The blue blooded Lovecomesknocking, whose dam is closely related to the Captain Al sired champion Captain’s Lover, is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross as Varsfontein’s new sire Sandringham Summit and fellow G1 winners Gunner and Proceed.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose Boland Stud consigned colt (Lot 89) out of Golden Earings was knocked down to Pound Bloodstock for R750 000, ended Thursday’s auction as second Leading Sire by Aggregate.
The son of More Than Ready had just four yearlings on sale but his quartet fetched R3 775 000 and averaged an impressive R943 750 at the KZN Sale.
Gimmethegreenlight, on track to become South Africa’s Champion Sire for a third time and second year consecutively, has enjoyed plenty of sales ring success this year. At the 2024 Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls, his yearlings averaged over R900 000, while at this year’s National Yearling Sale, Gimmethegreenlight sired yearlings fetched up to R6 000 000.
