Varsfontein Stud’s leading sire Gimmethegreenlight has a smart looking crop of three-year-olds this season, and the son of More Than Ready came up with another eye catching 3yo winner when his son Ottoman Empire made a winning debut at Durbanville on Tuesday.

Trained by Eric Sands, the gelded Ottoman Empire defied his starting odds of 50-1 when romping home to a clear-cut, two and a quarter length debut win over 1250m on Tuesday.
Under inform rider Keagan De Melo, the Wicklow Stud bred three-year-old pulled clear in the closing stages to win as he liked.
Ottoman Empire, who is out of the Elusive Quality mare Ankara, was a R300 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
He joins G2 Prosport International Debutante winner Ecstatic Green, East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Favorita, and Gatecrasher Stakes hero Gold Season, as above average performers to have emerged from Gimmethegreenlight’s current crop of 3yos.
Also sire of multiple Equus Champion Got The Greenlight (who has earned over R2.3 million in prize money), Gimmethegreenlight has 14 lots on offer on the upcoming Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.
