South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have yet another talented sort on his hands in the form of Taegan’s Champ.
The latter, a devastating winner on debut, made it two wins from two starts when he won at Turffontein on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite still green, the Fabian Habib trained Taegan’s Champ maintained his unbeaten record when storming home, under Denis Schwarz, to claim Tuesday’s Next Turffontein Racemeeting Sunday 17 December Novice Handicap (1400m) convincingly by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Shadwell Stud, Taegan’s Champ was a R350 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
The colt is out of the Var mare Varachino.
Gimmethegreenlight, who is set to be joined at Varsfontein Stud by his champion son Sandringham Summit, was once again in the headlines last weekend when his sons Cosmic Highway and Countdown ran first and second respectively in the G2 Cape Merchants.
Already twice South Africa’s Champion Sire, Gimmethegreenlight is again heading the South African premiership for 2023-2024.
