Global View colt lands Zimbabwe Triple Crown

26th Apr 2025

Ascot Stud’s successful resident sire Global View had a good day on Friday.
Not only did Global View filly String Of Light win the fifth race run at Fairview on Friday, but Global View colt River Power claimed Friday’s Listed Zimbabwe Derby.

In the process, River Power claimed the Zimbabwe Triple Crown of 2025, with the colt having also prevailed in both the Listed Zimbabwe Guineas and Listed Zimbabwe 2000 in 2025.

Trained by Debra Swanson, and ridden on Friday by Deryl Daniels, River Power stormed home to claim the Zimbabwe Derby (2400m) by an emphatic seven lengths.

The Riethuiskraal Stud bred colt has won six of seven starts and is yet to finish out of the first two.

River Power is out of the Ideal World mare Shirley Valentine, and is bred on the same Global View/Ideal World cross as 2023 Listed Castle Tankard winner Ideal View.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2019-2020, Global View is no stranger to coming up with high-class performers with the son of Galileo also responsible for South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year Dave The King.
