The progeny of Varsfontein Stud’s red hot stallion Master Of My Fate continue to impress, and that magnificent son of Jet Master was at it again this weekend, when Master Of My Fate was responsible for a pair of graded stakes winners.
Master Of My Fate’s talented 3yo son Twist Of Fate (a member of his sire’s very first crop) made it win number six, from just 13 starts, when accounting for impressive G2 Gauteng Guineas hero National Park (the only horse as yet to defeat the brilliant Hawwaam) by three-parts of a length in Friday night’s G2 KRA Guineas at Greyville.
The Joey Ramsden trained colt (who also accounted for multiple G1 winning Equus Champion Soqrat when victorious in Friday’s R600 000 classic) powered clear under Anton Marcus to take his earnings to R2 212 850 with a powerful win. His sire’s very first winner, stakes winner and graded stakes winner, Twist Of Fate has now a trio of graded victories to his name, with the talented sophomore also finishing second in December’s G1 Cape Guineas.
Out of a mare by Counter Action, the consistent Twist Of Fate (one of 2 runners in the 2019 KRA Guineas sired by Master Of My Fate) has been unplaced just once in 13 starts and ranks among the best of his generation.
Just one day later, the Master Of My Fate sired 2yo filly Basadi Faith made it four wins, from as many outings, when downing a high class field to land the G2 SA Fillies Nursery at Turffontein over 1160 metres.
Trained by Paul Matchett, the Favour Stud bred Basadi Faith had won the Listed Ruffian Stakes impressively last time out and made it a feature race double with a courageous win in Saturday’s R400 000 contest. Basadi Faith now looks likely to be aimed at some of KZN bigger races for 2yos.
Her sire went close to recording a graded stakes treble over the weekend, with Master Of My Fate’s promising son Master Of Illusion finishing a close second in Friday night’s G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.
A winner of six of only eight starts, Master Of My Fate has made an exceptional start to his stud career, with his first crop containing not only Twist Of Fate, but brilliant Kenyan classic winner Silverstone Air, Derby Trial hero Gift For The Gap, G1 contender Goliath Heron, and the promising G3 performer Triple Fate Line.
From one of the best families in the stud book, Master Of My Fate is a half-brother to the stakes winning Justthewayyouare –whose Captain Al colt Vasco Da Gama made R4 400 000 at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
