Gelykfontein Stud’s resident Grand Slam horse Visionaire was produced by an outstanding broodmare in the form of Scarlet Tango.
The latter came up with her fifth graded stakes winner when Scarlet Tango’s five-year-old son Scarlet Fusion (by Curlin) won Saturday’s G3 John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes at Sam Huston.
Third in his only prior stakes try in the Tinsel S. at Oaklawn, Scarlet Fusion just got up in the shadow of the post to land the John B. Connally Turf Cup on Saturday.
With several lengths still to make up on the leader from third, Scarlet Fusion tipped outside at the head of the lane and kept driving, just nailing Another Mystery on the line.
The chestnut has now won four times with Saturday’s win pushing Scarlet Fusion’s earnings to $427 918.
Scarlet Fusion’s dam, Scarlet Tango, has been an exceptional producer. A daughter of French Deputy, Scarlet Tango won four times and finished second in the Laura Gal Stakes. At stud, she produced the G1 winners Visionaire (King’s Bishop Stakes) and Tara’s Tango (Santa Margarita Stakes) as well as fellow graded winners Madison’s Luna (G3 Hutcheson Stakes) and Scarlet Strike (G3 Providencia Stakes).
Both Scarlet Strike and Tara’s Tango have produced stakes winners at stud with Scarlet Strike dam of G3 Supreme Stakes winner Toro Strike and Tara’s Tango dam of G3 Virginia Derby winner Capensis.
Leading First and Second Season Sire of his year, Visionaire is also responsible for this season’s G3 TAB4Racing Fillies Mile winner Emirate Gina.
