Great start for Legislate!

16th Oct 2018

Former Horse Of The Year Legislate, who recently returned to the home of his birth –Cheveley Stud, has made a fantastic start to the 2018 breeding season.
The first three mares covered by the champion have all tested in foal which surely bodes well for the rest of the season!

John Freeman says of Legislate’s good start, “This is excellent news because he has a bunch of really well-made yearlings from his small first crop born last season. We have set his fee at a very low R5,000 (only due at live foal) to draw mares. Please allow me to encourage you to send a mare to him this season. Few racehorses of his calibre are at stud in SA. Not only was he crowned Horse Of The Year and triple Equus Champion as the winner of 4 Gr1 races (just like his illustrious sire Dynasty) but is also the fastest miler on record at Kenilworth. We must try and reproduce that superb talent – please!”

The handsome bay, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014, won seven times and banked more than R5.7 million in prize money. The multiple Equus Champion won no fewer than six graded races, with Legislate’s notable wins including all of the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, G1 Investec Cape Derby, G1 Daily News 2000, G2 Green Point Stakes and G2 KRA Guineas.

Legislate’s sire, former Horse Of The Year Dynasty, has three Horse Of The Year winning sons to his credit and is also responsible for triple G1 winner and the very exciting young sire Jackson.

A grandson of the legendary Sadler’s Wells, Dynasty’s 90 plus black type performers include 14 G1 winners and eight official champions.

Out of a four time winning own sister to ten time winner Asprey and half-sister to top class sprinter Black Skimmer, Legislate’s second dam, by multiple champion sire Jungle Cove, is G1 performer Classy Play –a full-sister to Golden Slipper/SA Fillies Sprint winner Jungle Class.
