Klawervlei Stud’s boom sire Twice Over is from an outstanding family, and the four time G1 winner’s female line was back in the news at Tuesday’s session of the 2018 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster.
An Oasis Dream colt, catalogued as Lot 175, was knocked down to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for £150 000, making him the joint fourth top lot sold at the Premier Sale.
The colt’s 4-year-old brother Silent Echo was trained initially, like his dam, by Roger Charlton, for whom he won twice at three. Sold on for 120,000gns by Juddmonte last autumn to Peter Hedger, the gelding has won another two races and is now rated 99.
This is also the family of current high class group performers Crossed Baton and Viadera as well as new National Stud sire Time Test.
Consigned by Norris Bloodstock, the £150 000 colt was produced by Quiet –a three-parts sister to former European champion Twice Over.
The latter, Europe’s Joint Champion Older Horse in 2009, was a superb athlete, whose 12 wins included back to back runnings of the G1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes, the G1 Juddmonte International and G1 Coral Eclipse.
Twice Over, who banked more than £2.4 million during his stellar career, has made an equally outstanding start to his stud career.
South Africa’s Champion Second Crop Sire in 2017-2018, Twice Over’s impressive first crop includes Equus Champion, and 2018 G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, Do It Again, brilliant G1 winning 2yo Sand And Sea, and three and a quarter length G3 Highlands Stud Winter Derby winner Doublemint.
Another son, Palace Green, caught the eye when finishing third, on debut, over 1200m at the Vaal on Tuesday.
