Ascot Stud had a memorable day on Friday when their resident sires came up with the winners of the Listed Ibhayi Stakes and Listed Lady’s Pendant respectively.
Ascot’s Galileo horse Global View is the sire of Friday’s very impressive Ibhayi Stakes winner Fairy Knight.
The latter, sent off 13-10 tote favourite for Friday’s race -the first leg of the EC Sophomore Challenge-, made it three wins in a row when storming home to land the Ibhayi Stakes impressively.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff-trained three-year-old hit the front full of running and powered away to win by four and a quarter lengths. Fairy Knight was one of four runners in the 2024 Ibhayi Stakes for his sire Global View.
Bred by Ascot, the gelded Fairy Knight has now won five of 11 starts, with the three-year-old having finished unplaced just once thus far.
Fairy Knight, who was runner up previously in all of the Listed East Cape Nursery, Listed Champion Juvenile Cup and Listed Racehorse Owners Association Stakes, is out of the Lecture mare Fairy Queen.
He was a R120 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Fairy Knight is the fifth stakes winner for Global View, whose high-class son Global Drummer won the Listed Ibhayi Stakes back in 2021.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2019-2020, Global View is a son of Galileo and the Storm Cat mare Egyptian Queen and he is thus bred on the same cross as such outstanding performers as Gleneagles, Happily, Decorated Knight, Clemmie and Churchill to name a few.
