Ideal World colt tops KZN sale

7th Jul 2018

A full-brother to high-class filly, and former KZN Sale graduate, Inverroche, proved the star attraction at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale, which took place at the Sibaya Entertainment World on Thursday and Friday.

Consigned by the Birch Bros, the Ideal World colt named Macallan (Lot 252) was knocked down to Louis Goosen for R500 000 to top the two day auction.

His full-sister, and G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner, Inverroche is currently a warm fancy to land Saturday’s KZN Yearling Sale Million at Greyville tomorrow.

The pair were produced by the winning, one-eyed National Sensation, a daughter of National Assembly who hails from the same family as this season’s G1 Sun Met runner up Last Winter.

Mauritzfontein’s Ideal World ended the two day sale having five lots gross R920 000 and he ended up as the fifth leading sire by aggregate.

The son of Kingmambo has enjoyed an excellent season in 2017-2018 so far, with his major winners including British G3 heroine Smart Call, unbeaten 3yo Rainbow Bridge, the above mentioned Inverroche and Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Coral Bay.

Overall, an improved quality of thoroughbred saw the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale end on a positive note.

The aggregate for the sale rose from R16.105 million to R17 675 000 (or over 6 percent), and the average price increased from R73 205 to R80 341 (a pleasing rise of 10%). The median too showed improvement on last year, and increased from R45 000 to R50 000.

Bloodstock South Africa’s Gary Grant understandably was more than satisfied with the results of the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale. He commented post-sale, “The sale held up well especially given the tough economic climate. Both the average and aggregate rose notably, and it was great to see a broad bench of buyers from across the country in attendance. An overall improvement of quality in the yearling offered resulted in decent prices achieved at this regional sale.”
