Ideal World fillies star in Irridescence Stakes

15th Jul 2018

Mauritzfontein’s increasingly successful stallion Ideal World enjoyed another memorable weekend this week.
The son of Kingmambo and Breeders’ Cup winning champion Banks Hill had a trio of local winners over the weekend, with his daughters Coral Bay and Helen’s Ideal’s first and third placings in the Listed Highlands Sutd Irridescence Stakes on Saturday highlighting the treble.

Coral Bay

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, 2yo Coral Bay made it win number two, from four outings, when running out a clear cut half length winner of the Irridescence, defeating favourite Santa Clara a shade cosily into second.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, and ridden to victory by Richard Fourie, Coral Bay was making it back to back feature wins having previously triumphed in the Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and she looks a potential contender for the upcoming Cape racing awards.

Out of the Fort Wood mare Bonze, Coral Bay was a R60 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Yearling Sale.

Paternal half-sister Helen’s Ideal, a 4.75 length debut winner of her only outing, also caught the eye when running on strongly for third at just her second start and she too looks a promising sort in the making.

Rainbow Bridge

The sire’s weekend treble also saw Arte land her sixth win at Turffontein on Saturday, while a day earlier Ideal World gelding Multi Gold had won for a second time, in just six starts, for trainer Sharon Kotzen.

(Yet another Ideal World filly picked up black type at Kenilworth on Saturday when Talitha Borealis ran on for third in the Listed Highlands Stud Winter Oaks over 2200m.)

Ideal World has an exceptional crop of juveniles this season, and they include not only Coral Bay and Helen’s Ideal but G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche and the smart looking filly Grecian Laurel.

A proven sire, whose best include the Equus Champions Smart Call and Hermoso Mundo as well as this season’s unbeaten 3yo Rainbow Bridge, Ideal World has an exceptional draft on offer at August’s National Two Year Old Sale.

His 11 lots at the sale include a filly out of a Danehill Dancer daughter of Fillies Guineas winner Igreja (Lot 33), a half-brother to the high class pair of Zanzamar and Ziparana (Lot136), a filly out of a winning Fort Wood half-sister to dual Guineas winning sire Noordhoek Flyer (Lot249) and a half-sister to 2018 KZN Yearling Sale Million winner Givinitsum (Lot 255).
