Impressive debut winner for Trippi

19th Oct 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s resident champion sire Trippi was responsible for a very impressive debut winner at Turffontein on Thursday.
His Drakenstein Stud bred and owned daughter Summer Afternoon made a pleasing debut when justifying favouritism over 1200 metres on Thursday.

Trained by Sean Tarry and ridden by Lyle Hewitson, the 3yo Summer Afternoon (sent off an 11-10 chance) showed her class by scoring an emphatic one and a half length win first time out and she looks a potentially smart sort in the making.

Summer Afternoon, whose beaten rivals included another superbly bred first timer in the form of Veritas, continued the good run of her sire, who was responsible for a trio of South African winners the previous weekend.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi is enjoying another good season in 2018-2019, with his notable performers including G3 Spring Spree Stakes winner Chimichuri Run and G3 World Sports Betting Diana Stakes first and second Love To Boogie and Miss Katalin.

The sire of more than 140 stakes horses in total, Trippi has also enjoyed notable success as a broodmare sire in 2018 and is damsire of US G1 performers Miss Sunset and Signalman this year, with the former having earned nearly $900 000 in prize money, and Signalman finishing second in the G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.

Trippi has a single lot on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale and two lots on the same month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
