Impressive debut winner for Var

1st July 2019

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s in-form stallion Var had yet another impressive two-year-old winner when his son Var And Away made a winning debut at Turffontein on Sunday.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Var And Away ran on powerfully to get up close home and score a neck win on debut for trainer Mike de Kock and jockey Randall Simons.
Out of the Parade Leader mare Angel Witch, Var And Away was a R275 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.

The colt is the tenth juvenile winner this season for Var (Champion Sire of 2Yos in South Africa the past two seasons running), along with the likes of G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner Eden Roc, G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship second Cavivar, and Listed Somerset 1200 third Ground Control.

The sire of 90 stakes horses in total, Var has two well bred yearlings on offer at this week’s KZN Yearling Sale.
