I Lived, a half-sister to Maine Chance Farms’ popular young stallion Vercingetorix, broke her maiden in eye catching fashion when scoring an all the way at Kenilworth on Wednesday.|
Fifth on debut (and only previous outing), I Lived jumped the tote favourite, and made all to record a facile two and a quarter length win over 1200m.

Bred by Klawervlei, I Lived was a R3 000 000 buy from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where she was the second top priced filly sold.

A daughter of ill-fated triple champion sire Western Winter (whose son What A Winter is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire), I Lived is the eighth winner produced by the stakes placed National Assembly mare National Vixen, whose other notable runners include G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Trinity House and G2 performer and eight time winner Never Forever.

I Lived’s half-brother Vercingetorix, whose first foals arrived last year, was himself a popular yearling –and was the fourth top priced colt sold off the 2011 National Yearling Sale.
The son of champion sire Silvano more than lived up to his looks-and went unbeaten through a brief South African campaign.

Vercingetorix won all four starts in South Africa, including the G1 Daily News 2000 and G2 KRA Guineas, and was Equus Champion 3yo Colt in 2013. Sent to Dubai, he won three times there including the G1 Jebel Hatta and G2 Al Rashidiya, and was also second, to the world’s top rated horse of 2014 –Just A Way, in the G1 Dubai Duty Free.

Among the notable G1 winners/champions defeated by Vercingetorix were Blazing Speed, Capetown Noir, Dank,  Epiphaneia, Hunter’s Light, Love Struck, Mshawish, The Fugue, Trade Storm, Wild One, Wylie Hall and Yorker.

One of 18 G1 winners for former champion sire Silvano, Vercingetorix had a 2016 stud fee of R40 000.
