Jackson relative lifts Northern Dancer Turf Stakes

19th October 2020

Say The Word, a gelding from the same family as Ridgemont Highlands’ triple G1 winning sire Jackson, claimed the biggest win of his career when victorious in Sunday’s G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes Presented by Pattison at Woodbine.

Say The Word

Ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, Say the Word broke at the very back of the pack and trailed the field through the early stages of the 1 1/2-mile turf test. Admiralty Pier set the pace from the front and saved ground along the backstretch. Still racing at the back of the field as 1 1/4 miles went in 1:41.97, Say the Word began to pick up speed coming off the far turn when he was guided out into the two path by Wilson. Angled out even wider exiting the turn for home, Say the Word found his second gear at the top of the stretch and kicked forward.

Say the Word continued to surge down the outside and managed to keep Sir Sahib at bay in the final strides. The 5-year-old More Than Ready gelding crossed the wire one length in front of a game Sir Sahib to complete the race in 2:29.87.

Bred and owned by Sam Son Farm, Say The Word has now won five times for earnings of $445 292.

He is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Danceforthecause, whose fourth dam, legendary broodmare No Class, also ranks as the granddam of multiple champion sire Smart Strike as well as the fourth dam of Cape sire Jackson.

One of the very best sons of top local sire Dynasty, Jackson had an excellent season in 2019-2020 with his leading representatives including dual G3 winner Pretty Young Thing and millionaires Pure State and Count Jack.

The former Investec Cape Derby winner has 11 lots on the upcoming Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale and a further 8 lots on the CTS Ready To Run, Unbroken 2 Year & Mixed Sale.
