Judpot filly impresses on debut

27th Aug 2018

Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire Judpot, who hails from the same family as current European standouts, Alpha Centauri, Study Of Man and Old Persian, looks to have a promising sort on his hands in the form of Strawberry Wine.

A newly turned 3yo, Strawberry Wine made an eye catching debut when winning first time out at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Trained by Glen Kotzen and ridden to victory by Ryan Munger, Strawberry Wine ran on smartly from the back of the field to register a 0.75 of a length win over 1400m first time out.

Bred by Willem Engelbrecht Jr, Strawberry Wine is out of the Jallad mare Kiss And Ride and she was a R105 000 buy from the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale.

Her blue blooded sire Judpot enjoyed a great season in 2017-2018 when represented by such graded stakes winners as Coral Fever and Sniper Shot.

A son of  A P Indy, Judpot is well established as a high class sire, with his best runners including the G1 winners Along Came Polly, Coral Fever, Forest Indigo and Juxtapose.
