Judpot relative named Horse Of The Year

5th Dec 2018

Brilliant filly, Alpha Centauri –a close relative of Varsfontein Stud’s successful sire Judpot, garnered further recognition when she was crowned Horse Racing Ireland’s Horse Of The Year for 2018, at a gala dinner held in Dublin on Tuesday.

Judpot’s champion relative Alpha Centauri

The 3yo daughter of Mastercraftsman won six of ten outings, before being retired from racing after suffering an injury, with Alpha Centauri lifting all of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas, G1 Coronation Stakes, G1 Falmouth Stakes and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois in 2018.

Trained by Jessica Harrington, Alpha Centauri (who was also crowned Cartier Champion 3YO Filly for 2018), banked more than £1.254 million in prize money.

Alpha Centauri is out of the unraced Rahy mare Alpha Lupi –whose French 1000 Guineas/French Oaks winning dam East Of The Moon is a half-sister to outstanding sire Kingmambo and to Judpot.

Her third dam is legendary racemare Miesque, whose 10 victories included the 1987 and 1988 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Judpot, a son of dual US champion sire A  P Indy, made headlines in November when his top class son Coral Fever defied 61kgs to land the G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile –beating subsequent G1 G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup winner Tilbury Fort into second in the process.
