Juvenile double for One World

16th Dec 2023

Drakenstein Stud’s G1 Sun Met winning stallion One World has made an excellent start to his stud career, and the former Equus Champion was responsible for two two-year-old first crop winners on Saturday when his daughter Sahara Cat and son Lion Rampart claimed the Kaapse Klopse Summer Coronation Plate and HeartFM Commonwealth Plate respectively.

Both Sahara Cat and Lion Rampart are trained by Vaughan Marshall and both were ridden to victory by Richard Fourie.

Lion Rampart became a third first crop winner for his sire when romping home to score impressively on Saturday.

Despite racing very green in running, the One World outclassed some well bred rivals when storming home to win by a length and three quarters.

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Lion Rampart had finished fourth on his only previous outing.

Lion Rampart is out of the Var mare Saltire and he has a full-brother (Lot 70) on offer at the 2024 Premier Sale.

Sahara Cat had finished second on her only previous start and duly built on that effort with a fine performance on Saturday.
Under Richard Fourie, Sahara Cat was always up with the pace in the Kaapse Klopse Summer Coronation Plate (Fillies) (1000m) and, when asked the question, quickened up smartly to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Sahara Cat is out of the Western Winter mare Stormin Cat.

The filly was a R130 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.

One World, who shares his legendary broodmare sire Giant’s Causeway with outstanding stallion Gun Runner, has six lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls.
