Longsword relative off the mark

2nd Nov 2018

Klawervlei Stud’s William Longsword had another relative reach the winners enclosure when the lightly raced Arlingtons Revenge shed his maiden at the Vaal on Thursday.
Trained by Mike de Kock, and bred by the Rosedene Stud, the gelded 3yo gave Hannah Runnalls her first winner when saluting by two lengths over 1400m.

Arlingtons Revenge, who was making just his second racecourse appearance, is a son of the smart Muhtafal mare Cleome–a half-sister to G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery winner The West Is Wide.

Cleome is also dam of the smart Full Of Attitude, who ran third in the recent R500 000 WSB Grand Series Leg 2 (beaten by Tsitsikamma Dance –who shares his sire Captain Al with William Longsword).

This is the same family as numerous high class performers notably champions Imperious Sue, Kelly and Victory Moon (sire of multiple champion Princess Victoria) and G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess.

The latter is a half-sister to three winners notably young Cape sire William Longsword and G1 G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup entrant Silver God.

One of 18 G1 winners sired by deceased champion sire Captain Al, William Longsword won six of only eight races, banking over R4 million in the process. The handsome bay scored his biggest wins in the G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas and CTS Mile, with his beaten opponents including such as Equus Champions Edict Of Nantes and Just Sensual, Hong Kong star Singapore Sling, Zabeel Mile hero Janoobi, and the G1 winners Gunner and Heavenly Blue.
