L’Ormarins King’s Plate day double for Querari

5th January 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Querari had another good day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday. Not only did Querari’s son Black Cheetah remain unbeaten when winning the Charles Dickens Stakes, but Querari-sired runners Candy Town and Questioning finished first and second respectively in Saturday’s Franschhoek Motor Museum Winchester Sprint Cup.

Querari has made a scintillating start with his two-year-olds in 2024-2025, and his two-year-old son Black Cheetah confirmed the promise shown on debut when running out a convincing winner of Saturday’s Charles Dickens Stakes (1000m).
Under a confident ride from Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith-trained colt stayed on nicely in the closing stages of the R400 000 contest to win a shade cosily by a long neck. Querari enjoyed a 1-3 finish in the Charles Dickens Stakes, with his son Paternal Guidance finishing third to Black Cheetah.
An impressive winner on debut, Black Cheetah is unbeaten in two starts.
Bred by part-owners Drakenstein Stud, the colt is out of the Var mare Mara.
Querari runners dominated the finish to Saturday’s Franschhoek Motor Museum Winchester Sprint Cup (1000m) where speedy filly Candy Town was just too fast for her male rivals.
Under a front running ride from Serino Moodley, the Andre Nel trained four-year-old confirmed the merit of her last run, when runner up in the G3 World Sports Betting Southern Cross Stakes, by storming home to a one-length triumph.
Bred and owned by Sabine Plattner, Candy Town has won three of just ten starts.
Querari’s multiple graded stakes winning son Questioning caught the eye when finishing second in the Franschhoek Motor Museum Winchester Sprint Cup, with the gelding conceding no less than 9.5 kgs to Candy Town.
Both Candy Town (Captain’s Flame) and Questioning (Wheredowego) were produced by daughters of Captain Al.
Champion Querari is enjoying a wonderful run of success in 2024-2025, with the son of Oasis Dream’s South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos for the current season. Querari has also had good success with his older runners this season, however, with his older flagbearers including such graded stakes winners as Questioning and Rainbow Lorikeet.
