Master Of My Fate gelding wins Kings Cup

15th March 2026

Varsfontein Stud’s top-class homebred stallion Master Of My Fate enjoyed more feature race success this weekend.
His Justin Snaith trained son Okavango showed his well being when he won the Listed Kings Cup at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

Under Tristan Godden, the four-year-old went out to make the running in Sunday’s R165 000 contest.
Okavango fought out a stirring duel with champion King Pelles in the closing stages of the Kings Cup, with Okavango staying on gamely to win by just over half a length.
It was a smart performance from the Michael De Broglio bred gelding, with Okavango having to lug 63kgs on his back in the Kings Cup.

Owned by Nick Jonsson, Okavango, who is out of the Sportsworld mare Sabina Park, was a R420 000 buy from the 2023 November Two Year Old Sale.

The three-parts brother to dual G1 Summer Cup winner Master Sabina has won four of 14 outings, with Okavango’s past efforts including a third in the 2025 G1 Daily News 2000.

His sire Master Of My Fate enjoyed some fine results at the Premier Yearling Sale this weekend.
Master Of My Fate had six yearlings sell at the Premier Sale, with his yearlings grossing R6.125 million and averaging R1 020 833.

Master Of My Fate had a pair of colts fetch R2 200 000 apiece at the 2026 Premier Sale, with Form Bloodstock purchasing Western Master (Lot 167) for that amount, and Jonathan Snaith signing for Masai Mara (Lot29) at R2.2 million.
