Klawervlei Stud’s successful resident sire Pomodoro has made a fine start to the new racing season, and the versatile G1 Vodacom Durban July winner struck again twice at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday.
Pomodoro’s first success on Monday came when his Glen Kotzen trained daughter Oh So Squishy landed the second race in fine style.
Under a fine ride from Malesela Katjedi, the Pomodoro filly set out to make all the running in Monday’s Gold Circle Racing Youtube Channel FM 81 Handicap (F&M) over 1800m, and the Klawervlei Stud bred Oh So Squishy kept finding more in the closing stages to win impressively by nearly three and a quarter lengths.
Pomodoro struck again in the very next race when his Duncan Howells trained son Liketheclappers captured the third race, the www.galloptv.co.za Maiden Plate (1800m).
Under Kyle Strydom, the Pomodoro colt powered away to score by a long neck, with Liketheclappers having finished third at his last two starts.
Pomodoro, whose daughter Smiley River recently won her fifth race, went close to enjoying a treble at Greyville on Monday with his son Immeasurable finishing second in the seventh race.
Pomdoro, whose son Black Thorn has been nominated for the Equus Champion Stayer award of 2021-2022, has six lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
