Monday double for What A Winter

1st December 2020

Fresh off supplying Saturday’s G3 World Sports Betting Magnolia Handicap winner in the form of Winter Smoke, Drakenstein Stud’s inform stallion What A Winter had two more winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday.

The four time G1 winner’s first success on Monday came when his Duncan Howells trained son Spydas Corner won the second of nine races carded. Under inform rider Muzi Yeni, the Rathmor Stud bred 3yo powered home to get up and down his full-brother Purple Powahouse by a head while scoring over 1000, with What A Winter filly Deep Thought finishing third.

The gelded Spydas Corner, out of the Kabool mare Clarion Call, has now won two of just four starts.

What A Winter’s second winner on Monday came in the form of his Danika Stud bred daughter Arctic Princess. The latter, also ridden by Muzi Yeni, powered clear to win by just over two lengths while victorious over 1200 metres.
Out of the Al Mufti mare Rozelana (and bred on the same cross as her sire’s top-class daughter Magical Wonderland), Arctic Princess has now won twice, winning over 1200m and 1400m.

What A Winter also enjoyed a notable day on Saturday -not only did the former Equus Champion come up with a new G3 winner in the form of Winter Smoke, What A Winter also provided the winners of the final two races on the Kenilworth card, with his sons No Laying Up and Mr Cobbs landing races seven and eight respectively.
