More feature race success for Gimmethegreenlight

2nd September 2019

Varsfontein Stud’s red hot sire Gimmethegreenlight has made a good start to the 2019-2020 South African racing season, and the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning son of More Than Ready enjoyed more feature race success last Friday.

His Lammerskraal Stud bred son Vikram produced an electric turn of foot to get up close home, and land the Founders Trophy over 1600m at Fairview on Friday and win by a head going away.
The lightly raced, Andre Nel trained four-year-old has now won or placed in eight of only nine starts, with Vikram having cost R675 000 at the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Out of the Western Winter daughter Vermilion, Vikram is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Western Winter cross as Zimbabwean Horse Of The Year Simona and KZN Guineas Trial hero Stream Ahead.

His sire Gimmethegreenlight, whose G2 Post Merchants winning daughter La Bella Mia ran a creditable fourth in Saturday’s G3 Spring Spree Stakes, enjoyed a fantastic season in 2018-2019, and ended last season fourth on SA’s General Sires List (he was the country’s second Leading Active sire last season by stakes), with Gimmethegreenlight progeny banking in excess of R13.8 million in 2018-2019.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight’s 44 individual stakes horses include Equus Champion, and leading classic hope for 2019-2020, Got The Greenlight.
