Pathfork son makes it five in a row

13th Feb 2020

The Sandown Stud based Irish champion Pathfork is the sire of top Gauteng sprinter Mr Flood.
The latter made it five wins in a row when running out a convincing winner of the G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap (1000m) at Turffontein on Wednesday for trainer Lucky Houdalakis and jockey Marco Van Rensburg.

Mr Flood

Mr Flood, bred by Willem Engelbrecht Jnr, was always up with the pace in Wednesday’s R200 000 sprint and kept finding more in the closing stages to score by half a length –while conceding 7.5kgs to runner up Mombela.

Now a winner of six of just eight starts, the lightly raced four-year-old was picking up his second graded victory, with Mr Flood having captured the G3 Lebelo Sprint back in December.

Mr Flood, who looks a likely contender for the upcoming G1 Computaform Sprint, took his earnings to R507 576 with Wednesday’s victory.

His G1 boylesports.com Vincent O’Brien National Stakes winning sire Pathfork, a half-brother to G1 Preakness Stakes winner War Of Will, has had a fine spell in 2019-2020, with Pathfork’s other notable performers this season including G3 London News Stakes winner Jet Start and Model Man Mile hero Fools Gold.

From the same family as Redoute’s Choice, El Gran Senor, and Northern Guest, Pathfork has four lots on offer at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale.
